Oregon city installing recharging stations - Seattle's Energy Efficiency leader

Oregon city installing recharging stations - Seattle's Energy Efficiency leader: "An Oregon city is positioning itself to become one of the most electric vehicle-friendly cities in the nation.

This week, Coulomb Technologies announced that the city of Hillsboro would be installing 16 of its ChargePoint stations for plug-in and electric vehicles. The facilities will be located throughout the downtown area at commonly used areas such as the local hospital, train station and Pacific University. Hillsboro is about 15 miles from Portland.

'We have a large forward-thinking population ready to embrace electric vehicle technology and the City is committed to providing the facilities to meet the public’s demand,' said city official David Robinson.

The charging stations will use smart grid and networking technology to let drivers do things like receive messages on their cell phones when charging is complete and where unoccupied charging stations can be found.

Other charging stations being introduced in the U.S. offer further green benefits by incorporating solar energy technology into their systems. A growing number of electric and plug-in vehicles are expected to hit the market in the next couple of years as major automakers continue making progress on new models."
