Sustainable Development - Green News & Sustainable Business News: "The state of Oregon and automaker Nissan Motor Co. Wednesday unveiled a partnership Wednesday to promote the development of an electric vehicle charging network.
The deal includes a commitment from Nissan to supply electric vehicles to the Oregon’s fleet of state vehicles in 2010, when the vehicles are introduced to the North American market.
News releases from Nissan and the state did not specify the number of vehicles.
Kulongoski announced the partnership while meeting with Nissan officials in Japan while Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO of Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA, did the same from the Los Angeles Auto Show.
As part of the deal, the Oregon Department of Transportation wants to develop charging stations in partnership with utility companies and local governments.
Both Nissan and the state will work with electric utility Portland General Electric Co. to create the charging network. PGE already has a head start. This summer it began installing a model infrastructure across the metro area, with six charging stations across Portland and Salem and plans for about six more.
The partnership is the second in North America for the Renault-Nissan Alliance. It has a similar agreement with the state of Tennessee and the Tennessee Valley Authority. The group is working on similar initiatives globall"
