The new Oregon Trail: Pioneering the electric car - Opinions from The Oregonian Columnists, Editorials, Letters, Blogs, Cartoons and More - OregonLive.com: "It is exciting to see Oregon in a position to be one of the world's first places to test plug-in electric cars in a big, serious way. Gov. Ted Kulongoski, Portland General Electric and Nissan Motor Co. have reached an agreement that makes Oregon one of just a few sites worldwide to pioneer electric cars, starting in 2010.

Like other such tests, it will begin with government and commercial fleets. But there's every reason to believe that one day, and relatively soon, the streets and highways of Oregon could be one of the places where zero-emission vehicles truly take off."

Indeed, California and Oregon will lead the way. I read about this is Jeff Wilson's new book The Manhattan Project of 2009 Energy Independence NOW. I thought electric cars a wonderful thought but thought it a bit futuristic. It is thrilling beyond belief to see this unfolding this early on.
