After that, a gas engine will kick in to generate the electricity needed to travel hundreds more miles.
The battery in the Volt will only use 50 percent of its capability to preserve its health, Lutz said, but GM will keep pushing to get greater range out of one charge, which could eventually result in a reduction in size or cost."
