global economics and energy

global economics and energy: "t is important to understand the linkage among population growth, economic progress and the amount and type of energy used around the world. Growing populations continue to advance economically over time and seek better living standards, which leads to increased energy use. Studying these linkages gives us a more accurate assessment of future energy demand.

Starting with the chart on the left, the global population was roughly 6.4 billion people in 2005. Birth rates are slowing in most parts of the world and the overall average annual growth rate between 2005 and 2030 is expected to be less than 1 percent. Although this rate may sound insignificant, the result is a global population increase to 8 billion by 2030 – well over a billion more energy users than exist today."
