New Bill Would Create 10 Million Solar Roofs Across US : TreeHugger
New Bill Would Create 10 Million Solar Roofs Across US : TreeHugger: "the '10 Million Solar Roofs & 10 Million Gallons of Solar Hot Water Act' ... would provide rebates that cover up to half the cost of new systems, along the lines of incentive programs in California and New Jersey (not coincidentally, Nos. 1 and 2 in installed solar in the U.S.). It also includes measures to insure that those who receive assistance get information on how to make their buildings more energy efficient."

Driving in savings-neutral territory so far - latimes.com: "That was my thinking when I decided to go solar in May 2009. I had spent a week testing my theory. I borrowed an electric BMW Mini E and charged it with the electricity I was generating from my rooftop solar panels. I wanted to better understand how much juice was needed to power a zero-emissions car and to see how the charging affected my electricity consumption."

Oil No, Innovation Yes | Green Energy News
Oil No, Innovation Yes | Green Energy News: "What’s really needed, anyway, more than new oil, is more energy innovation. Breakthrough ideas pop to the surface often enough, but they are disruptive to the entrenched fossil energy industry, thus are not welcomed with open arms.
Electrically-driven cars, as disruptive as they are to big oil, are on their way nonetheless and to some extent will actually help another one of the entrenched energy industries – coal – at least for a time. Most of the US grid is powered by coal, thus cars plugged into it will be coal powered. However, many buyers of plug-in vehicles will certainly have another idea on their minds: the possibility that their electric cars, trucks or SUVs can be charged with home-brewed renewable electricity."

U.S. Could Stop Coal Emissions in 20 Years
U.S. Could Stop Coal Emissions in 20 Years: "A new study claims that the U.S. could be free of emissions from coal-fired power plants in 20 years using only technologies that currently exist or could be ready in the next decade. The one thing holding us back, according to the authors, is political will.
The study, published in the latest issue of Environmental Science and Technology, lays out a plan to erase coal emissions that includes cutting fossil fuel subsidies, applying a substantial fee on carbon emissions, developing a smart grid, increasing energy efficiency, some carbon capture and storage, and, of course, replacing coal with clean energy alternatives and new (hopefully safer) nuclear technologies."

Thursday = Thor's day | Derek Sivers
Thursday = Thor's day | Derek Sivers: "Last week we had dinner at a quiet restaurant on the Oregon coast, and sat near two people that were obviously on a first date. (“So, do you have any siblings?”)
When their conversation took an interesting turn, we couldn't help but listen:
“You're an atheist? How can you not believe in God?”
“How can you not believe in Zeus or Thor?”
“That's stupid. Those are old folk-tales.”
“They were God! You're dismissing others' beliefs, calling them folk-tales? So you're also an atheist for most gods that have ever existed. I just go one further.”
“I'm not an atheist!”
“You and I are almost identical in our beliefs! If history has named, say, 520 gods, you don't believe in 519 of them, I don't believe in 520 of them.”"

TED Blog: How great leaders inspire action: Simon Sinek on TED.com
Simon Sinek has a simple but powerful model for inspirational leadership all starting with a golden circle and the question "Why?" His examples include Apple, Martin Luther King, and the Wright brothers -- and as a counterpoint Tivo, which (until a recent court victory that tripled its stock price) appeared to be struggling. Will Nissan Have a Smaller Electric Car For Sale After the Leaf? - All Cars Electric
Will Nissan Have a Smaller Electric Car For Sale After the Leaf? - All Cars Electric: "Rumors are flying that Nissan is preparing a subcompact electric vehicle to compete directly with cars like the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, and it may even be made in China.
The rumors are unconfirmed: word of mouth from inside a partner company of Nissan. But given the number of pre-launch reservations for the 2011 Nissan Leaf EV--combined with Nissan's long history of EV development--a new, smaller EV could be just what Nissan needs to become the market leader."
